Chelan PUD Finalizes 2015 Budget

Chelan County Public Utility District Commissioners passed their budget for next year unanimously this week. The Board said priorities include paying down debt, investing in dams and electric grid and keeping utility rates the same. Quite a different outlook compared to even a few years ago. For a closer look at the 2015 PUD budget, Dan Langager filed this report.

Removing Old Cars from the Methow River    

December 03, 2014
Restoration work is set to begin along the Methow River in Okanogan County removing old derelict cars embedded in the shoreline for over 60 years. Thanks to funding from the state Department of Natural Resources, the Methow Valley Salmon Recovery Foundation will use cranes to remove the cars, then restore vegetation and conduct overall river cleanup. Jay Witherbee with sister station KOZI in Chelan filed this report.

Stalled Apple Shipments Hurting Local Business

With the apple harvest wrapping up this week, growers and shippers across the Northwest are anxious to get their fruit out to buyers across the world. They’ve hit quite a snag however, thanks to a labor dispute with west cost terminal operators and the Longshore labor union. How is the stall in shipping affecting apple farmers right here in our region? Dan Langager filed this report on one grower in Manson.

Ag Associations' Merger Winding Down

Earlier this spring, a transition board was put together to oversee the merger of our state's four tree fruit associations. They missed their September goal of finalizing the move, but hope to have everything ironed out in January. Members and leaders of the fruit associations are converging this week in Kennewick for the annual State Horticultural meeting to do just that and Dan spoke with Hort's Executive Director Bruce Grim.
