October 12, 2011

The Town

Toyota Center budget is an issue that looms large, as are questions about the Pybus Market project. WVCC Executive

Director Craig Larsen said the chamber is hosting a mayoral candidate forum to discuss those issues at noon

Budgetary issues could have significant impacts of area businesses, and cuts at the

city level could trickle down to business owners. Larsen said tax increases are a possibility that could cool the

economic climate. If Wenatchee raises sales taxes, Larsen said it is possible businesses might pick up and move

across the river.

Larsen said the AARP's article rating of Wenatchee as a good retirement

community is a gift that keeps on giving, and the area continues to see the benefit of people relocating to

Membership in the WVCC in 2011 has dropped slightly, and Larsen said the recession

continues to make things tough for everyone. An upcoming membership drive will hopefully generate increased

membership in 2012.
