Wenatchee Mayor Frustrated by Budgeting Process

November 15, 2011

Wenatchee Mayor Dennis Johnson has expressed frustration that city council has yet

to come to agreement on balancing the budget. With sales tax collections down and expected costs related to paying

off the Town Toyota Center debt, this year’s budget presents some real challenges.

Council has made it clear that they do not want to cut police or fire services, or the city pool, but that they

also want to leave reserve funds as intact as possible. Now it appears they may be open to the idea of a car tab

tax.
Isaac Kaplan-Woolner sat down with Mayor Johnson to get the latest as the clock ticks

down on the budgeting process.
Mayor Johnson will serve until the end of the year. The

newly elected mayor, Frank Kuntz, will take over January 1st.
