Travel as a Political Act

March 07, 2011

/>As winter rolls on, many of us are daydreaming of a beach somewhere warm and sunny. But should you take those

few short travel days and spend them in a gated resort or on a cruise ship?

Travel expert Rick Steves

has been around the world and back again. He is the host of the public television series Rick Steves' Europe, has

a public radio travel show, Travel with Rick Steves, and has authored various location-specific travel guides.

/>Steves visited Leavenworth Friday night to give a talk at the Sleeping Lady about his newest book, “Travel

as a Political Act”.
In it, Steves urges Americans to take the road less traveled by, to get out of our

comfort zones, and expose ourselves to cultures and peoples who may not think exactly as we do. Steves says this

sort of genuine, visceral travel can have wide reverberations.

Rick Steves joined KOHO’s

Isaac Kaplan-Woolner in our Leavenworth studios to talk about his philosophy on traveling with intention.

/>You can tune in to the radio show Travel with Rick Steves on KUOW every Saturday at 2pm, and the public

television show Rick Steves' Europe most weeknights at 7:30pm. For more information visit
