Swakane Fire Has Blackened About 20-thousand acres

Firefighters are making progress against The

Swakane Canyon wildfire that has burned nearly 20 thousand acres of grass and brush North of Wenatchee. A

spokesman, Vladimir Steblina provided Wenatchee Bureau Chief Steve Hair with an update from this morning’s command

staff briefing.
More than 400 firefighters are at the scene of the Swakane Canyon Fire that was reported

Saturday in canyons west of the Columbia River. The fire has destroyed a hay barn and threatens about 70 homes

along Highway 97A. About 18 people who evacuated Saturday night have returned to their homes.
