The Chicago Cubs hired Joe Maddon as manager. Maddon led Tampa Bay to the playoffs four times in nine seasons. The Cubs fired Rick Renteria, who was 73-89 in his only season as the team’s manager. Renteria played for the Mariners in the 1980s.
