Secularist Billboard Unveiled in Wenatchee

May 06, 2011

A new red white and blue

billboard on North Wenatchee Avenue in Wenatchee declares that God and government are a “dangerous

mix”. The billboard was paid for by Madison, WI based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), with the help

of a group of North Central Washington secularists. Its unveiling was timed to coincide with Thursday’s

National Day of Prayer.

The billboard reads, “God & Government – A

Dangerous Mix: Keep State and Church Separate.” FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor said the billboard is

intended to represent the secular views of people who live in Wenatchee, and to underscore what she sees as the

pitfalls of a National Day of Prayer.

The FFRF billboard will stay up for at least a

month. Gaylor would not disclose the campaign’s total cost.

The Freedom From

Religion Foundation is also currently running a similar advertising campaign with bus-side ads in Washington DC

supporting the separation of church and state.
