Ports to Push Forward with Pangborn Project, Despite Drop in Federal Funding

April 02, 2012

The Ports of Chelan and Douglas Counties will have to cough up $2.2

million dollars, not the $1.1 million they had planned on, to make the Pangborn Memorial Airport runway extension

a  reality. The FAA funding bill, passed in February, decreased the amount the feds will cover for airport

imporovement projects from 95% to 90%.

But Lisa Parks, Director of the Port of Douglas County,

said she remains confident and the runway project will move forward. Port of Chelan County Director Mark Urdahl

said he certainly isn't happy about the drop in federal funding, but the project is important and will proceed.

Urdahl said the additional cost may put other Port projects temporarily on hold.
