Job Training Programs Threatened by Federal Budget Cuts

April 01, 2011

SkillSource office is on the Federal budget chopping block and that could mean serious cuts if not elimination of

local job training programs…
The agency would lose 80 percent of its budget under a plan by the majority

Republican U.S. House to control government spending. Wenatchee Bureau Chief Steve Hair reports . . .

cuts were included in the Continuing Resolution which passed the US House last week. Congressman Doc Hastings

defends his vote in favor of the cuts on fiscal responsibility grounds . .

Meanwhile, The U.S. Senate has

proposed a package of smaller cuts, which would have maintained the Worker Investment Act, which provides the

majority of SkillSource’s funding.
