Gregoire's Budget Would Significantly Impact Prisons and Probation

    Today we continue to explore the potential ramifications of Governor

Gregoire’s proposed budget cuts. The legislature will convene November 28th to try and patch a $2 billion

hole. This comes on the heels of some $4.6 billion in cuts made earlier in the year.

of Gregoire’s proposals to save money would let prisoners out of jail early, and shorten the supervised

parole time for all offenders.
    Other budget cuts proposed by Gregoire include cutting in

half levy payments to poor schools, cutting higher education by 15%, and eliminate subsidized health care for the

working poor.
