Fire Sunday Causes Evacuation Notices in Sky Meadows, Briskey Canyon Areas

October 11, 2009

County and Department of Natural Resources crews are

battling a blaze outside Sky Meadows and Briskey Canyon. Lieutenant Maria Agnew with Chelan County Emergency

Management said the fire started early in the afternoon from a private party burn pile that got out of control and

moved westward. As of Sunday evening, 3 DNR helicopters were working the blaze as well as up to 50 people

digging fire line on hand crews.

While winds up to 20 miles an hour fanned flames at times today, Agnew said she hopes the winds will die

down as the temperature plummets tonight, giving fire crews time and conditions to wrestle the upper hand from

mother nature.
