Fire Crews Battle 260-acre Burn Near Lake Chelan

August 02, 2011

Fire crews continue to battle a blaze burning about 5 miles north of Chelan. Officials first

heard about the burn around 2pm Monday afternoon, originally reported as a grass fire at the Lake Chelan Gun

Club. Around 10 this morning, US Forest Service officials estimate the fire is around 260 acres, and 10-30

percent contained.

Fire fighters are throwing an impressive arsenal at the burn, with five 20-

person crews, two bulldozers, nine fire engines, and one helicopter beating back the flames. Interagency

commanders have been able to do that because of the relative calm on the fire front elsewhere in the

Northwest.

fire in the area) to owners of 10 structures in the area. No one has been injured in the

firefight.
