Fifth Street Project would Eliminate On-Street Parking at Wenatchee Valley College

March 31, 2011

No more parking along Fifth Street for students attending Wenatchee Valley

College. Steve Hair reports that the City is moving forward with a major street widening project in that location

and planner, Gary Owen says on-street parking would be replaced with bicycle lanes . .
The City hosted an open

house last week to provide an update on the project which is slated to begin this summer. Owen says the open house

was also an opportunity to hear how the community feels about it. The on-street parking issue topped the list of

concerns . .
The Wenatchee City Council will receive an update on the project at their study session Tonight

(3/31). Owen says he plans to share the comments received at last week’s open house as well as the ongoing

discussions with Wenatchee Valley College . .
The City is hoping to finalize the fifth street design plans in

time for the summer construction schedule. The State will kick in the lion’s share of the funding for the 700-

thousand dollar project.
