2011 YEAR IN REVIEW: FIRE SEASON

December 30, 2011

North

Central Washington’s fire season was characterized by it’s…well…lack of fire. This

is the 3rd straight year fire has stayed away from our doorstep. While that news is music to the

ears of our tourist industry along with vacationers and campers around the state who come here to play, US Forest

Service officials say there is an undeniable tradeoff. Michelle Ellis of the Wenatchee River Ranger District

tells KOHO’s Clint Strand that the prospect of fire in our area is a “when” not “if”

proposition, and that we should all brace for a potentially volatile summer of 2012 if conditions are

right.
