WSU Cooperative Extension On Chelan County Budget Chopping Block ?

"margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Ray Faini (fye-EEN-nee) has been down this road before. As

manager of the Washington State University Cooperative Extension in Chelan and Douglas Counties Faini often finds

himself at the bottom of the county budget food chain.  This year Faini again finds himself in the

uncomfortable position of having to justify his department’s worth to Chelan County Commissioners as well as

fellow department heads as they consider an across the board 10 percent cut in spending in 2010. Faini maintains

that the cooperative extension is just as important as any other core function of government. Faini talked to

Steve Hair following the Commissioners Monday morning budget meeting. . .

the County’s bare-bones budget is now in an amputation situation. Its reported that up to 50 jobs might have

to be cut in order to balance the books next year.
