Wenatchee Valley Tourism: What Can We Learn From Walla Walla or Bend

March 17, 2011

Could the Wenatchee Valley learn something from Walla Walla’s tourism industry? What is the secret to Bend,

Oregon’s success as an outdoor recreation destination? Members of the Wenatchee Lodging Tax Advisory Committee

heard presentations from three tourism marketing groups during a lunch meeting at City Hall yesterday. Steve Hair

reports on what happened.
The LTAC Committee was created by the City Council to study how tourism dollars are

spent locally and how the activities of the Wenatchee Visitor’s Bureau might be improved. Wednesday’s meeting

featured presentations by Walla Walla and Bend, Oregon. The panel also heard from an official with the Finger

Lakes regional tourism office which represents 14 counties in Upper New York State. Wenatchee City Councilman, Don

Gurnard says the information collected at the meeting will help the City and the Visitors Bureau map out future

strategies . .

The Committee will eventually report back to the City Council with its recommendations.
