Wenatchee Pybus Market Project Moves Forward

Plans to develop a public market along Wenatchee’s Riverfront have moved another step forward. Chelan County Port District Commissioners took the first step toward the possible purchase of the Morse Steel property by ordering an appraisal of The 3-acre property at the foot of Orondo Street. Its located at the south end of the City’s Riverfront subarea plan which extends North to the Town Toyota Center and includes the soon-to-open Riverside Drive. The Port’s Director of External Affairs, Mike Armstrong says Wednesday’s Board action follows months of discussions with the City regarding economic development along the City’s waterfront. The Port of Chelan County is in the business of economic development. To that end Armstrong says the Morse Steel property, if aquired, could be a valuable asset to add to the Port’s portfolio of properties in Olds Station, Cashmere and Peshastin. Armstrong says the property is also located within the City’s recently created Local Revitalization Improvement District which could help attract more commercial development through tax incentives from the State. There’s already interest being expressed by private developers to build a Public Market using the existing Pybus Steel building. There are also reports that the old City Public Works property to the north is close to being sold for development of a luxury waterfront hotel.
