The Eagle fire has grown to about 790 acres about

five miles outside of Leavenworth.  Due

to the fire's spread downhill, 27 homes/structures are now under evacuation level 3. The remainder of the

residences between Bjork

"on">Canyon and Van Creek area, approx. 38-40 in number, are at level 2 evacuation

For those not familiar with the area,

let’s give you an idea of what’s in the fire’s path.  To the north of the fire are timber

sales areas, thick with growth.  To the south of the fire is Eagle Creek Road, where fire crews are working hard with structure protection to

those affected homes under evacuation notices.  To the east is the Eagle Creek drainage, and to the west is

the Chumstick area, filled with homes and large pockets of unburned timber.

A Type-II interagency management team is fighting the burn now, commanding air tankers, choppers,

and over 120 personnel.

The cause of the fire is

still under investigation.
