Traffic Safety Campaign Sees Results

June 11, 2013

Between May 20 and June 2, extra law enforcement patrolled Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan County roads looking for unbuckled drivers and passengers, and motorists talking or

texting on their cell phones. The Chelan-Douglas Target Zero Task Force, along with 130

police and sheriff agencies statewide, conducts these extra traffic enforcement campaigns each spring on a

yearly grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

Wenatchee Police Department Captain Doug Jones sat down with us to

talk about these annual programs. Jones said he believes it is an effective campaign in both enforcing traffic

laws and creating safer roads.

The Target Zero campaign is a Washington state traffic safety program created by over 70 agencies at the state, local

and non-profit levels. The goal of the campaign is to end all traffic deaths and serious injuries in the state by

2030.
