Teen Driver Safety Week

October 15, 2009

The early snowfall is a brief reminder that slippery driving is right around the corner. Winter roads are a challenge for any of us, but they are even more dangerous for teen drivers.
Cars crashes are the number one killer of American teenagers. So Governor Christine Gregoire declared the third week of October Teen Driver Safety Week.
And it’s no small problem. Throughout 2008, 16-19 year-olds accounted for 4.2% of all licensed drivers, but 7.6% of all drivers in fatal crashes in Washington State. One quarter of crash fatalities in the nation involves a 16- to 24-year-old driver. More than twenty teenagers die in car crashes across America every day.
To talk more about Teen Driver Safety Week, KOHO’s Isaac Kaplan-Woolner spoke with the Director of the Washington Traffic Safety Commission
