Taylor Bridge Fire Now At 22,000 Acres

August 16, 2012

officials say the Taylor Bridge Fire outside of Cle Elum continues to grow, just not as explosively as it had in

its first 24 hours.

Public Information Officer Mick Mueller says over 900 firefighters are battling

the 22,000 acre blaze blackening sagebrush, grassland and timber. Mueller says the fire is 25% contained,

mostly on the south flank. Firefighters are working hard to stem growth on the north flank, where the goal is

to keep the fire from reaching stretches of weakened pine and timber at the doorstep of Blewett Pass. Mueller

said fire crews feel optimistic that can be achieved.

60 homes have been lost to the

flames, and hundreds more remain on evacuation
