Red Cross Honors Hometown Heroes

An off-duty

Wenatchee Fireman saves the life of a toddler who fell 30 feet from the bleachers at the Tacoma Dome, A chelan

County Sheriff’s Deputy Risks his own life to rescue a stranded climber on Slide Ridge, a Chelan County volunteer

firefighter rescues a one year old boy from drowning.

Those are just a few of the people honored last week

as Hometown Heros by the Apple Valley Chapter of the Red Cross. SteveHair was at the annual awards ceremony at the

Wenatchee Convention Center last Thursday and he filed a report.

The Red Cross handed out awards to

recipients in 9 different categories. Each of the award winners shared their stories in short videos including

Wenathchee Fire fighter Clint Webley who’s life changed forever on February 20th while attending the State

Wrestling Tournament in Tacoma .

Joining Webley as recipients of Hometown Hero Awards were Chelan County

Sheriff’s Deputy Joihn Wisemore for his life saving rescue of a man trapped on a ledge in the Slide Ridge area,

Norma Gallegos received a Community hero Award for her 25 years of work with the Chelan/Douglas Head-Start

Program. Head-Start was also honored with the red Cross Community partner hero award. Victor Zavala received the

Water Safety Award for saving the life of a little boy who fell into a five gallon bucket of water. The law

enforcement hero award went to Wenatchee Police Officers Jared Reinfeld and Scott Reiber for their rescue of a

young woman who drover her car into the Columbia River. Francisco Bazan and joel Diaz were honored with the Animal

Rescue Award for saving three pets from a burning mobile home. The Mission Ridge Ski team received the Adult

Humanitarian Hero award for responding to a life-threatening skiing accident. Over 250 people turned out for the

award ceremony in Wenatchee.
