One Year After Tragic Avalanche Community Rallys Around Memorial Project

February 19, 2013

Today is the one year anniversary of the avalanche near Stevens Pass that took the lives of beloved local

skiers Johnny Brennan, Jim Jack, and Chris Rudolph. For many, the shock and grief of this tragedy remains a fresh

wound.

But the community has also come together many times, and in many different

ways, to celebrate the lives of these special men and to help each other heal. One of the efforts that arose from

this tragedy is the Ski Hill Memorial Project, which is raising money for a memorial patio and other improvements

to the Leavenworth Ski Hill.

Through a major raffle and auction, other community events, and numerous

individual donations, the Ski Hill Memorial Project has become a testament of this valley’s love for their

fallen friends.

To mark today’s anniversary of that avalanche one year ago, Isaac

Kaplan-Woolner called Patrick Walker, a member of the group that has been overseeing the Ski Hill Memorial

Project.
