Oktoberfest Money, Part 2

October 28, 2010

Oktoberfest in Leavenworth. For some, it’s the biggest party of the year in the Bavarian Villiage. For others, it’s a headache best avoided three weekends in October. What’s undeniable, no matter what side of the keg you stand on the issue, is the fact the event generates some serious money. How much? And where does that money go after expenses?
KOHO’s Clint Strand sat down with Projekt Bayern President Larry Meyer for an extended conversation about just that. In this segment of the interview, Meyer details where that money’s gone after expenses. Some examples over the last twelve months:
Large copper water fountain at the Festhalle:       $35,000
Building cupoloa for Carillon Bells @ Festhalle:   $9,500
Six new street lights for Leavenworth:                   $29,000
Funding band uniforms for Icicle River M.S.         $35,000
Banners along Highway 2:                                      $15,000
Donated money for architectural design and
physical building of platform/shelters at
Leavenworth train station :                                      $50,000
