New Boulder Creates Hazard on Popular Wenathcee River Rapid

May 01, 2012

Law enforcement officials are warning rafters, kayakers, and river tubers to avoid a potentially dangerous new rapid in the Wenatchee River between Dryden and Cashmere.
A large boulder fell in the river over the winter at a rapid called “drunkards drop”, which has created a hydraulic  reversal that the sheriff’s office worries might catch some folks on the river unaware. Sgt. Kent Sisson with Chelan County Emergency Management warns boaters to steer clear.
Isaac Kaplan-Woolner also wanted a perspective on this new hazard on the Weantchee River from a raft guide with decades of experience, Gary Planegan with Osprey Rafting.
