Mission Ridge Ski Resort Official Responds to Special Olympics

Mission Ridge Ski and Board Resort official says he doesn’t want to lose

the Washington State Special Olympics Winter Games. But General Manager Mark Millette says the ski hill can’t

continue to absorb all of the costs of donating to the event. Millette made in clear in an interview with

Wenatchee Bureau Chief Steve Hair that he’s willing to work with special Olympics and the community in efforts to

bring the games back in 2012 . .

The Special Olympics this week announced that they were considering

dropping Wenatchee as the host city for the winter games because Mission Ridge was no longer going to donate the

cost of lift tickets for the three-day event. But Millette explains the ski hill can’t afford that luxury anymore

given the current economy . .

Millette says under the deal currently on the table Mission Ridge would

continue to donate but there would have to be some level of shared cost . .

From a business perspective

Millette conceded that during the three days when the Winter Games are held Mission Ridge is still open to the

public. But with over three thousand people attending the event there are few if any hotel rooms available and as

a result the ski hill loses mone
