Farming and agriculture have been synonymous with north central Washington since homesteading began in the late 1800s. Many families' farms and businesses flourished in those early days, with many still continuing to this day.
One of those families is the Mathisons. They’ve been farming in the Wenatchee Valley for over 120 years. But 60-year-old Kyle Mathison, a fourth generation farmer, will tell you it all began long before that.
Mathison, Stemilt Grower’s Inc. co-owner, was chosen as the 2013 Organic Farmer of the Year. Our own Dan Langager sat down with Mathison to talk about the award, organic farming and what it means to be a fourth generation farmer in the Wenatchee Valley.
