Mountain Sprouts Children's Community near Leavenworth is taking its nature based curriculum a step further. Last week their kids participated in the 1 Million Bones project, which is raising money and awareness for the victims of global atrocities and genocide. A very heavy topic for any age group, but these pre-schoolers learned that bones are what connects us all together, and teachers used the project to discuss issues like respect and peace. Isaac Kaplan-Woolner headed up the Chumstick Highway to Mountain Sprouts as the kids collected sticks from the nearby woods, which would be painted white to represent the bones for this project. Those bones are now on their way to Washington DC to become part of a large memorial project.
