Leavenworth Food Bank's Thinning Wallet

October 22, 2013

The Community Cupboard food bank in Leavenworth is

facing some serious budget issues. The food bank’s food money is depleting faster this year than ever

before, causing staff to worry about how they will continue to support hundreds of families across the valley. For

further details on how the Community Cupboard is moving forward despite the deficit, our own Dan Langager filed

this report.
The Community Cupboard is hosting three fundraisers in November to help offset the costs of

holiday food baskets. On Thursday Nov. 21, 100% of the sales, tips, and wages from Café Verona and Pavz in

Leavenworth will benefit the Community Cupboard. On Sunday, Nov. 24, Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church will

donate all collection proceeds to the Cupboard's food bank.

Starting

Nov. 1 and going through Dec. 25, Safeway will be partnering with Northwest Harvest to provide $10 bags of food

that will be donated to the Community Cupboard.  All of the items

included (peanut butter, tuna, pasta, canned veggies and tomato sauce) are items they need for the food

boxes.
