Jail Partnership Future Still Uncertain

November 19, 2009

The most notable aspect of Wednesday’s regional jail partnership meeting in Wenatchee was who

didn’t show up. The absence of Chelan County Commissioner Ron Walter was disturbing to both Douglas County

Commissioner Ken Stanton and Wenatchee Mayor Dennis Johnson. Their dismay is heightened by the fact that the

partnership will be dissolved at the end of the year and there remains several budgetary issues that remain

unresolved. Steve Hair was at the meeting and talked afterwards with Mayor Johnson and Commissioner Ken Stanton

about their concerns . . Apparently Chelan County Commissioner Ron

Walter’s absence was due to a conflict with another out of town meeting. During Wednesday’s meeting

Jail manager, Phil Stanley estimated that revenues next year will be about 600-thousand dollars less than 2009.
