Honoring Hometown Heroes

January 13, 2014

We see so many super heroes today fighting everything from avarice to

aliens, but it can sometimes slip our minds that heroes exist in our world as well, right in our own

neighborhoods. Could be a good Samaritan performing CPR, someone stopping a bully from picking on the little guy,

or just a random act of kindness. There are so many stories of local heroes right here in our area, and the

American Red Cross wants to honor those heroes.

Every year, the Apple Valley Chapter of the Red Cross

honors ordinary citizens performing extraordinary and heroic deeds. Red Cross is currently taking nominations

through the end of January. Nominees selected as a hero will be honored at the annual Hometown Heroes Celebration

March 20. Red Cross volunteer Naila Duffy stops by the studio to tell us all about it.

Nominations are

due by Jan. 31. Forms are online at redcross.org/AVHeroes and at their office 12 Orondo Ave.in Wenatchee. You can

also call 663-3907 for more info.
