Today we are looking at a new lawsuit being filed against the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery by landowner Harriet Bullitt. Bullitt seeks to stop the hatchery from diverting Icicle River water into their wells in order to protect wild species. A similar lawsuit is also being filed by environmental group the Wild Fish Conservancy.
Hatchery Complex Manager Dave Irving said he understands the concerns of the litigants, and the hatchery has been improving operations. But he is tasked with raising salmon, and to do so the hatchery requires water. Isaac Kaplan-Woolner has more.
Irving added that a National Environmental Protection Agency review process would be carried out for any potential future projects at the hatchery.
