Although unemployment inched upward last month the overall economy in the Wenatchee area appears to
be rebounding. Steve Hair reports . .
That’s how Mark Berreth assesses the latest monthly economic indicators.
Berreth is the Regional labor Economist for Central Washington. He reports that February’s jobless rate was a
fraction higher than January.
Berreth says extending back to the end of 2010 there has been steady growth
in all job categories. .
Berreth says he also anticipates a further decline in unemployment as the weather
improves and the Agricultural jobs sector ramps up . .
Another bright spot in the economy are the latest
sales tax numbers.
Washington State’s 9.8 percent jobless rate in February was 1.1 percent below February
2010. The labor force had dropped slightly since last year, but the number employed has increased.
