These women give a new meaning to rolling with the punches.
Apple City Roller Derby is about to start its second season. The sport involves 2 teams skating around an oval track, pushing and jockeying for position and hoping to get their “jammer” past the group to score points. It is a very physical contact sport, yet it has attracted hundreds of women of all ages from throughout the Wenatchee Valley.
With many sold out matches in their very first season, roller derby is a local hit. Isaac Kaplan-Woolner stopped by to see this year’s rookie drafting pool, and to get a behind the scenes look at this sport sensation with league president Barb Andre.
