Changes are being made to the management flow chart at the Chelan County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Harum announced this week that he is eliminating the position of Chief Criminal Deputy. The change was prompted with the announced retirement of Sgt. Mike Hartnett. Sheriff Harum explained the changes in an interview with Wenatchee Bureau Chief Steve Hair. Sheriff Harum’s actions are in response to Sgt. Mike Hartnett’s retirement. Hartnett plans to run against Harum in the upcoming election. Hartnett is running as a Democrat. Harum, a Republican, also faces a primary election challenge from Deputy, Brian Burnett. Hartnett says he decided to retire so that he could devote all of his time to the election campaign.
