Chelan County Sheriff’s officials are changing who gets to do detective work, and for how long. Sheriff Brian Burnett joins us in studio to talk about that and more.
Burnett said once appointed, detectives, who usually handle more thorny cases requiring more investigation, are in the positions as long as they like, until they step down or retire.
Burnett said he feels that’s an impediment to advancement and can lead to burnt-out troopers on regular patrol. More importantly, the deputies felt that way as well, which led to the change in policy. Burnett said the new length of service for detectives is five years, and then they will return to patrol duty.
