Port District has obtained a one million dollar loan from the State for road work associated with the Port’s
Cashmere Mill site development. The Port is collaborating with the City of Cashmere to complete infrastructure
improvements to a section of Sunset Highway which runs through the mill site property. The District’s Capital
Project’s Director, Laura Jaeckes (Jakes) describes what the funding will pay for.
Getting the loan
repayment deferall allows the Port to begin the project immediately and pay the loan over the long term. Including
the loan the Port has budgeted a total of 1.133 million dollars toward the project. Jaeckes also explains what the
vision is for future development at the old lumber sawmill site . . .
While the Sunset Highway work is
expected to get underway this coming summer, Jaeckes says there’s a lot more infrastructure work remaining before
the property can be developed . .
Port Commission President JC Baldwin said the Sunset Highway Improvement
Project will be a, “great connection for a potential business to the utilities needed and connection to Cashmere’s
downtown business district.”
