Have you ever heard of biochar? No? Well, that’s OK. If Tierra Learning Center outside of Leavenworth has their way, you’ll know all about biochar soon enough.
Tierra is set to start building a specialized kiln to turn forest debris into a material that could vastly improve production on their organic farm, all while potentially helping to slow down global warming. And because Tierra is a learning center, they want the community to come and take part in this relatively experimental green technology.
Isaac Kaplan-Woolner set out to find out more.
Tierra will invite the public to help build the biochar kiln and learn more about the new green technology. The project will kick off in mid-May, likely the 19th. For more information visit www.tierralearningcenter.org.
