Firefighters could only stand back and watch as a part of Douglas County history went up in flames last (Wednesday) night. Waterville Fire Chief, Dale Jordan says the old Badger Mountain schoolhouse burned down. . .

Jordan says the fire had spread to the surrounding grass but no neighboring structures were threatened. He said the building has served many functions over the years but currently unoccupied . .

Its not known when the building was built according to Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cutural Center’s archivist Mark Behler (Beeler). He says it was originally owned by the now defunct Beaver Creek and Dry Flats School District. The Districts dissolved and were incorporated into the then East Wenatchee School District in 1948.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries. Several agencies assisted Douglas County District 1 including District 2 in East Wenatchee and Chelan County District 1.
