Wenatchee Mayor Dennis Johnson made it official today . . The three-term mayor

met with City employees to announce that he will not seek re-election this fall

Johnson was first

appointed Mayor in 2000. He replaced Gary Schoesler (SHESS-ler) who the courts ruled was ineligible to serve due

to residency issues. The City of Wenatchee underwent several major changes during Johnson tenure. Riverfront

revitalization and the opening of the Town Toyota Center are among the projects Johnson oversaw. He also tells

Wenatchee Bureau Chief Steve Hair that he’s confident the City is on a positive course of direction for the future

. .

The mayor says his plans are now to retire but he says he will remain active and committed to the

issues facing the city and region during the balance of his term.
