A Chelan County Prosecutor explains why he did not pursue a jury trial against the Leavenworth man accused of shooting at a porch filled with people last January. 28 year old Jose Cruz Quintana was sentenced to five years in prison on a single count of second-degree assault after he pleaded guilty to reduced charges last week. He was originally charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and two counts of first-degree assault after the Jan. 17 shooting, which injured four women. In an interview with Wenatchee Bureau Chief Steve Hair, Shae said his case relied heavily on circumstantial evidence and that prosecuting the case would have been difficult after witnesses grew scarce.
A Jan. 24 hearing will determine how much Quintana must pay in restitution to the Wenatchee victim.
