Authorities say a fatal weekend house fire in East Wenatchee could have been prevented. The fire was reported Saturday evening around 11:35 pm. Douglas County Fire District Two assistant Chief, Dave Baker identified the victim as Anthony Poortinga who was the sole occupant of the home on 12th Street Northeast. Baker says firefighters discovered the 62 year old man’s body lying on the floor of his bedroom. He says the tragedy of the fire is that the death could have been prevented . .

Baker says the fire appears to have started in the living room but that investigators have not yet determined the cause of the blaze. Poortinga owned and operated a local vehicle towing company.
