Christopher

Wilson, the man authorities say murdered 17 year old MacKenzie Cowell eight months ago, made his first court

appearance today where charges of second degree murder were formally presented by Prosecutor, Gary Reisen. The 29

year old suspect was dressed in jail coveralls and chain shackles. Judge Leslie Allen read the charges against

him and she also set his bail at one million dollars as requested by Reisen. Reisen said the bail amount reflects

Wilson’s threat to the community. Wilson’s only previous run-in with the law was a citation for

driving with a suspended license. In court Wilson said he had no income and was granted a request for a public

defender. Keith Howard will represent him. Wilson displayed no emotion in court and he avoided eye contact with

the court gallery when he was led into and out of the court. The Courtroom was packed with members of the

victim’s and suspects family along with numerous friends and media.
