One person died last night when fire swept

through a Cashmere apartment dwelling. Chelan County Sheriff Mike Harum says the victim had reported the

fire at the Fisher Street apartment around 9pm in a 911 call to RiverCom Emergency Dispatch.

Cashmere Fire responded, along with Sheriff’s deputies and Aid. Cashmere Fire was also assisted by the on-site

maintenance employee at the complex.

The caller was found dead inside the apartment. Fire damage was

contained to one apartment inside the complex. Smoke damage was throughout the complex and affected most

apartments.

Nearly thirty residents were evacuated. Several were transported to Central Washington

Hospital with minor smoke related and other health concerns. Twenty residents were sheltered by the Red Cross at

the local Church of Christ.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the City of

Cashmere Fire DepartmentThe identification of the deceased is pending notification of next of kin and is being

handled by the Chelan County Coroner's Office.
