East Wenatchee Mayor, Steve Lacy has throttled the City’s plans for hosting sprint boat races in
July. Administrative delays were cited as the reasons for the City’s pulling the plug on the event. The City was
in the process of applying for a special events permit with Douglas County to hold the races on private land near
Pangborn Airport. Mayor Lacy says the biggest problem was obtaining the 800-thousand gallons of water needed to
fill the track. Mayor Lacy says the City is still interested in pursuing plans for a second race in September, but
even that is up in air at this point. Lacy stresses that his decision in no way was influenced by concerns raised
by neighbors of the proposed race track near Pangborn Airport.
