Officials from Seattle-based Intercommunity Mercy Housing presented their proposal to build a $29 million affordable housing complex on a city-owned parking lot at South Mission and Kittitas streets. The four-story building would contain 135 apartments for low-income seniors, retail space at ground level and a parking basement for 127 cars. The presentation before the City’s Affordable Housing Task Force attracted a full house at City Hall. Many in attendance were downtown merchants who expressed concerns about the potential loss of parking space Cynthia Parker with Intercommunity Mercy Housing says parking issues are not uncommon in these types of development but she didn’t sound like that would be a show stopper for the project.
