The Mariners made a surprising roster move just before Friday’s first pitch, placing right-handed pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right latissimus dorsi (the broadest muscle of the back).
Kansas City starter Yordano Ventura snagged a grounder from Chicago outfielder Adam Eaton and the pair exchanged words before Ventura threw to first to end the inning. After the play, players from both dugouts and bullpens ran onto the field with several punches thrown.
Taylor broke a bone in his wrist last month and was sent to Class AAA Tacoma while Brad Miller stayed on the major-league roster. Taylor is healed and now waits for another chance to return to Seattle.
