Since they were adopted by 46 states five years ago, the Common Core standards have become a symbol of Big Government overreach for conservatives. Republican Senator Ted Cruz, a White House contender, has promised to "repeal every word of Common Core." Rivals Bobby Jindal and Chris Christie, both governors who previously backed the standards, now condemn them.
NEW YORK (AP) — The federal 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, set up mainly to help people sickened by World Trade Center dust, has also awarded nearly $2.5 million to 10 people who were at the Pentagon or the Flight 93 crash site in Pennsylvania.
