U.S. home improvement chain Lowe's Companies Inc has let go three managers in Virginia who barred a black employee from making a delivery when a woman complained about his race, a spokesman said on Tuesday. "We have no tolerance for discrimination of any kind," spokesman Steve Salazar said. The delivery driver, Marcus Bradley, an 11-year employee of Lowe's in Danville, Virginia, told ABC affiliate WSET last week that a woman refused to let him into her home because he was black.

Arkansas will put panic buttons in classrooms statewide this year, with officials saying on Tuesday the plan would be the most comprehensive public school emergency alert system in the nation. The so-called panic button apparatus initially links to a community’s 911 system and can also guide designated emergency personnel to the precise location of the event. “To our knowledge it is the first statewide deployment of our technology in the U.S.,” said Noah Reiter, director of industry solutions for Rave Mobile Safety, based in Framingham, Massachusetts, whose system will be used by the state.

Michigan jury says hugs in prison allowed, awards inmate $1,251

A Michigan inmate was awarded $1,251 after a jury ruled his rights were violated when a guard barred him from hugging his wife during a prison visit. Kevin King, 52, who is serving a life sentence for a 1982 murder, was awarded $1 in Detroit federal court last week for a violation of his First Amendment rights and $1,250 as punitive damages. Jurors found that prison officer Tiffaney Williams retaliated against King and his wife for previous complaints when Williams ordered them not to touch each other during a 2012 visit at the G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility in Jackson, Michigan.

The National Transportation Safety Board also concluded in a review that the injuries to Morgan and other passengers were exacerbated by their failure to wear seat belts. Morgan, 46, suffered a serious brain injury and broken bones and was left in a coma.
