CHICAGO (AP) — Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert has pleaded not guilty to charges that he violated banking rules and lied to the FBI about promising to pay $3.5 million in hush money to conceal misconduct from his days as a high school teacher.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Police Commission found that an officer wrongly approached and stopped a 25-year-old black man last year ultimately leading to the fatal close-range shooting and therefore violated department policy, according to a report released late Tuesday.
Los Angeles police commissioners on Tuesday issued a mixed ruling in the shooting of an unarmed black man by two patrolmen, largely approving of one officer's actions while finding that the other had violated department policy. The decision followed a tense administrative hearing into the shooting death of 25-year-old Ezell Ford last Aug. 11. One man was arrested outside the meeting room for interfering with a police officer, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said.
